A day before a crucial vote in parliament, Thailand's ruling coalition has agreed to support 37-year-old political newcomer Paetongtarn Shinawatra as its candidate for prime minister.
Thursday's agreement followed numerous behind-the-scenes talks in the 24 hours after a court sacked Srettha Thavisin as prime minister. His Pheu Thai party had rushed to secure support from its 11-party alliance in an effort to form the next government.
