Teachers do not use Romeo and Juliet, claims the Prime Minister in defence of the literature purge by the education authorities

A “clean-up” of the books and plays taught to high school students – including the removal of Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet” and other texts – is being driven forward by teachers, the prime minister says.

After the Sunday Times announced last week that older works had been replaced in the updated list of prescribed texts for the ATAR literature course, Roger Cook welcomed the debate on classic texts.
