Transport union closes branch due to “cultural” problems

The Transport Workers' Union has ordered the closure of one of its branches after an investigation revealed significant cultural and operational problems. The TWU national council took the decision on Tuesday to close the Victoria and Tasmania branch following an investigation by retired judge Frank Marks.

The secretary of the influential Transport Workers Union (TWU) in Victoria was removed from office over allegations of hazing. A TWU spokeswoman confirmed that the union learned of the allegations against its current secretary, Mem Suleyman, a heavyweight in the Victorian branch of the transport union, late Friday.
