A young Kalgoorlie-Boulder resident is using her story as a “helping hand” for other epilepsy patients and is taking part in a month-long step-by-step challenge to raise awareness and funds. Kalgoorlie-born Abbey Cullen was 19 when she began hallucinating during a movie and suddenly lost consciousness for nearly half an hour.

Completing a 5k is no easy feat without some training, but for Bunbury resident Phil Thompson, the distance had a very special meaning. Mr Thompson, 74, suffered a stroke last year and was admitted to Bunbury Regional Hospital with weakness in his left arm and slurred speech.
