Labor and the Liberals have resisted a complete ban on gambling advertising, despite promises to stem the flood of betting material aimed at Australians. Former Prime Minister John Howard has joined dozens of prominent Australians in calling for a complete ban on gambling advertising. He signed an open letter published on Saturday calling on both major political parties to commit to a three-year phased ban to combat “gaming addiction” in the country.
