‘Hell’ for family after coroner finds beloved father’s death ‘preventable’

A doctor who falsely diagnosed an Aboriginal man with a drug-related illness before he later died in excruciating pain from perforated abdominal ulcers should be referred to the health authority, a coroner has ruled.

The New South Wales Coroner's Court on Tuesday announced its findings into the death of Ricky “Dougie” Hampson, who died in August 2021 less than 24 hours after being discharged from hospital.
