Democrats are gathering in Chicago to celebrate Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign for the White House against Republican Donald Trump and to honor President Joe Biden, whose exit from the race turned the fortunes of his party.
Tens of thousands of protesters are also expected to march on a route through the city outside the security perimeter at the start of the four-day Democratic Party convention on Monday. Many of them are against the Biden administration's support of Israel's Gaza offensive.
