Young offenders in NSW are more likely to end up in court than in a diversion program, and there is a trend for police to take a more punitive approach to dealing with children.

New research from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research shows a decline in the proportion of young offenders officially diverted from the justice system through a police caution, reprimand or youth justice conference.
