Assisted dying in Australia still accounts for only a small proportion of total deaths, but increasing demand has led to calls to streamline the process and employ more staff.
A landmark report by Go Gentle Australia on voluntary assisted dying – now legal in all jurisdictions except the Northern Territory – found that 2,460 people had chosen to end their lives using the service.
